OMG Progress for January 2018

Well, I am almost ready to start my "happy dance". . . .the pink & green quilt is almost done. . . . .

As in, the binding is on and is being stitched down.

I can't find my camera so this is a picture of the quilt, on our full-sized bed, but it is not quilted.  Trust me, the quilting is done now and as soon as I find the camera, or figure out how to upload a picture from my iPad you will see it.

This poor quilt has languished for at least 7 years. . . .and by this weekend it will be winging itself toward California as a donation for the Franklin Fire victims.

Having to be accountable, and having to post blog entries about a project seems to be what I need in order to "git 'er done".

Now I need to decide what my February goal will be.

In peace and pieces,

Sherry

The end is near. . . . .

Yes, the end is near!  The end of my talking about the dreaded "pink & green" quilt.

I have been working on this quilt on a regular basis.  One to two blocks quilted per day (although this past Sunday I was able to get three blocks quilted, yay me!) has gotten me down to five blocks remaining.

Then, of course, there comes the binding.

If I did not work I could have had this thing done & dusted a while ago. . . .but, I need money to feed the pups so I work.

-----------------------------------------------------------

In other "action". . . .this year I am a member of Stash Bee.

Each month there is a new "Queen Bee" who chooses a block for all of us to make for her using our fabrics in her colors.

Here is the January block that I mailed out:

I think it is pretty cool.  We had our choice of color for the geese. . . and I love yellow and orange so that is what I went with.

I hope it plays well with the rest of the blocks that are received.

Well, that is what I have been up to. . . . .I am looking forward to our guild meeting this weekend. . . where the binding will be sewn to the quilt and I can get to making quick work of hand stitching that on.

I know that I have lots of other hand work projects that I can do. . . so a decision will have to be made as to which one gets "aired out" while I quilt it.

Have a lovely day.

In peace and pieces,

Sherry

HQAL --- hand quilt a long

I am still working on the dreaded pink and green quilt.

So far I have done three blocks today...and hope to get another block or two quilted by the end of today.  EDIT:  I did a total of 4 blocks on Sunday.  Now there are only 15 more blocks to be quilted.

I thought I would show a closer view of the quilting as well as showing some of my tricks.

To get straight lines without making actual marks on the quilt I use masking tape.

For this quilt I am using a wide tape (shown below) and also 1/4" tape.  I think the wide tape is either 1 1/2" or 2" wide.

The tape can be used several times before being discarded and is very easy to position.

One tip. . . do not buy tape in the "quilting" section of the store -- you will pay more money, and usually get less length.  I get my tape either at a Dollar Store or in the paint/hardware section.

Less money for tape means more money for stuff that is fun (like fabric)!

The two pictures above (sorry for the blurry 2nd one) I wanted to show my stitches.  There are plenty of places where they are different sizes but once I get into the "zone" they get pretty even and stay straight!

Here's another tip when hand quilting. . . . if you want to keep your stitches as nice as possible have a second project in the works. . . . use that second project to "warm up" each time you start a quilting session. . . that way your fingers are more nimble and you can get your stitches more uniform.

Well, that is all I have for today.

FNWF ..... Friday Night with Friends

Ok, at the risk of boring you all to death....I worked on the pink & green quilt.

I am now down to having 19 border blocks to quilt.  My hope is to get at least one block done a day....which would mean that I will have plenty of time to get the binding done so that this quilt will be done before the end of this month.

This has been a very long term guilt quilt that I can not wait to get finished.

Check out what others did last night by checking out Cheryll's blog here .

Now I am going to go back to stitching.

In peace and pieces,

Sherry

OMG (one monthly goal) for January 2018

Happy New Year!

See the source image

Well, I am a little behind. . . but that is the story of most of my life.

I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve.  Mr. Books and I spent it with a small group of friends eating, talking and playing games.  Except that we did not get home until 2AM it was great fun.

So, in an endeavor to get more done this year I will be trying some new things. . . .like not making lists of things to do.

For me, list making is a way of life. . . . grocery list, bill paying list, passwords list, etc.  And those lists work really well for me.

But when it comes to the "git 'er done" list. . . . well. . . . that is another story.  If it is on THAT list. . . . well, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will not be working on it.
Why?  Beats me. . . . but once it is on a "to do" list my desire to work on everything and anything else kicks in.

So, this year, I am not making a list of things to do. . . . . but I will pick something (well, probably more than one thing) to work on each month. . . and make a list of what I get done.

My first monthly goal is to finally complete the pink & green quilt that I have been working on for years and years:

I have about 20 more squares to quilt. . . all border squares so I think I will make a concentrated attempt to get this done this month.

I am linking up with Elm Street Quilts for the One Monthly Goal program.  There is still time if you want to jump on the bandwagon. . . . after all, the more the merrier.

Wish me luck. . . . this project is now on "a list" . . . . . . LOL

In Peace & Pieces,

Sherry
