Ten Things About Me

1. I never married until I was in my mid-40's. . . to a man that I dated for 4 months (our 4 month anniversary was the day before we married). We met at church (which I had only joined in January --- we were married in November of the same year).

2. I've volunteered for an animal rescue group for several years. . . while I have not been as involved lately as I had been I still try to help them out.

3. There are very few times when I do not have a book in my hands. . . . .I love to read & usually have my nose buried in a book. Luckily for my craft work I have found books on cassettes and CDs.

4. My favorite colors are yellow/gold, rose/mauve/pink, and oranges. I had always thought that green was my least favorite, but then I realized just how much green is in my stash so I guess I need to include that as a favorite as well.

5. I'm lousy with remembering names. . . .but I can remember faces really well. It's made for some interesting conversation starters, but I'm usually correct.

6. I love reading about Mary, Queen of Scots, Anne Boleyn, and Elizabeth I. One of my travel plans is to one day follow the route that Mary, Queen of Scots took through England and Wales to try to escape from Elizabeth.

7. I enjoy RV'ing. . . .which is something that I would never had done but my DH came with a travel trailer. . .and it is cheaper than hotels & eating out.

8. I had been considering joining the Navy or Marines when I was in my 20's. I had taken the placement test (I was the oldest in the room and one of only a handful of females taking the test). The Marine recruiting said that I had done better on the mechanical portion of the test than some of the boys (believe me. . . .you DO NOT want me anywhere near ANY engine, unless it is to check the oil. . . . can't believe they thought I could work on tanks!!).

9. My hair is naturally curly. . . .I don't have to pay for the curls. But, back in the late 70's I paid to get my hair straightened so I would look like all my friends (who were using irons on their hair instead of their clothes).

10. I love to sing. . . . and can pull up, according to my husband, over 1000 songs right off the top of my head. I don't know if I really know that many songs. . . . but if I hear the tune I usually know the words!!!

July Finish --- Charming Girls Quilt Club!!

Well, I completed one of the projects that I had for July. . . .this quilt top is completed. I had wanted to have it basted so that I could start quilting but I didn't get that far.



I am making this for a co-worker. Her husband has cancer throughout his system and she asked that I make a quilt for their bed. I just hope that I can finish it quickly enough.

My rail fence hasn't been touched this month. I think I have to concentrate on one thing at a time.

I just finished book # 19

I just finished reading the 19th book for this year, "A Thread of Truth" by Marie Bostwick.

This is the 2nd book of hers that I have read and is the 2nd book about a group of women brought together by a quilt shop.

It was a really good book. . . .I read all 335 pages in 3 days!!

So far this year I am averaging 2.71 books per month. If I keep that rate up I could end up reading at least 32 books this year.

Hmm, I have some sewing that needs to get done. . . and I have another book on CD to listen to. . . so I'm heading downstairs to start on book #20.

The End of an Era????

I had recently read some "rumors" that there was a change "in the wind" concerning the Quilters' Heritage Celebration quilt show/convention that has been held yearly in late March/early April in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, when I checked the website for QHC it appears that the rumors are true. . .QHC is for sale, and if a buyer isn't found then 2009 will have been the last year for the show.

I remember attending from the first year. . . .taking time from work, spending all day in classes, then going back to work needing a break from the quilting.

While I was not as inspired lately. . . because alot of the entries were getting too far into "arty" quilts that are not my favorites. . . I could still find myself amazed with the workmanship that was presented.

Of course, I know that things change over time, but it has become such a habit to start looking for the class listing in October/November so that I could get my registration in as early as possible, that it seems unbelievable that I won't be doing that later this year.

Charming Girl Quilt Club update!!

I will have pictures later. . . but I just wanted to announce that I finished the quilt top that I was working on for my co-worker.

Now I think I am going to baste it with the machine quilting system that DH purchased in April at Quilters' Heritage in Lancaster, PA. It's way too big to be basted anywhere in my house (even if I took ALL the furniture out of any of the rooms!!). . .I have to learn how to use this thing so this will be something to start with.

YIPPEE!!! I actually got something accomplished so far this month!!

Charming Girls Quilt Club!

While blog hopping this afternoon I came across a blog called "Charming Chatter" and found out about a "support" group for those of us with UFO's.

Yes, I *know* what you are all thinking. . . my stick-to-it is really good at the beginning, but then I fade way before the "finish" line. And, you could have something there. . .but even though I don't keep track of the stash enhancement or depletion (as the case may be) along with the Judy L. and the group I have been trying to find out what exactly works to get **ME** to get my butt in gear and get things done.

So, I joined the Charming Girls Quilt Club. . . .and here are the first two projects I am committing to get finished:

This is a Rail Fence quilt that I used in a quilt class that I taught a while ago. The top is completed and it is pin basted. . .just need to thread baste it so I can quilt it. This is a small lap throw sized piece.








This is a gift quilt that I am making for a co-worker. Her husband is critically ill and she asked if I could make a quilt for their bed. There is still one more row of blocks to be added, then there is the basting and quilting to be done. This piece is double bed size. I believe the pattern is called "Pennsylvania Polka" but I will have to check that when I get downstairs to work on the last row.


This is by no means the only listing of UFO's that I have. . . but if I started to list ALL of them I'm afraid that panic would set in and I wouldn't be able to get anything done! he he he
