Merry Christmas.....Happy Birthday Jesus

Linus’ King James version scripture reading from Luke 2: 8-14, read: 

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And that is the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown.

HQAL. . . . next verse same as the first!

Well, I did not get to post yesterday because we had our guild Christmas/Holiday party.


I am still plugging along on the pink/green quilt that really, really, really needs to be finished this year.

The person that this was originally being made for is no longer in the area so once it is finished I will have to figure out what to do with it --- it is not in my color scheme, and it is too large for my bed.


I do have some charity options. . . will just have to see if one of them pans out.

Book Review -- The Radium Girls by Kate Moore

This review is my opinion. . . I received no compensation for it at all. . . . I did not receive a copy of the book from the publisher or author.


I borrowed "The Radium Girls -- the dark story of America's shining women" from the library.









I do not know how I came across the book. . . it may have been from another blog, it may have been from a search I did. . . .I have no idea.


But I am so very glad that I found it.


Yes, the subject matter is dark and depressing, but the writing style that Kate Moore has held me spellbound and I wish I could have just stayed home and read the entire book at one time.


Alas, work, travel, and family prevented that. . . . but this is a great page turner of a book.


The women are brought to such vivid life on the page that you really feel that you know them. . . .and can feel the anguish that they are going through.


It is a story that starts in the early 1900's. . . . .but it could easily be a struggle taking place today since the author concentrated on the women, not the politics (although does that ever really change?), not the standards of the day, etc. . . . .just the women and those men that were willing to help them.  Of course the "villains" are there too, since without them there could be no victory.


I have read a LOT of books (just check out the books tab) over the years and I do not think that I have read a book that I wanted to recommend so totally as this one.


Well written, extensively researched, and, since I live in New Jersey, extremely relatable are just some of the reasons I decided to write this post.


If you enjoy reading true stories I hope that you will pick this up, read it and then let me know what you think.

We celebrated Whoopie Pie Day in Lancaster, PA

This past weekend we were camping with our club at White Oak Campground
in Quarryville, PA.


One of the side trips we took was to Shady Maple Market . . . . they always have such wonderful meats and fruits (and the prices are terrific) so we came with an almost empty freezer . . . but we went home with a full one!


Saturday was the third (and last) day of their Whoopie Pie Celebration . . . . and, of course, I needed a selfie with Whoop E. Pie.

Mr. Books did not want to get in the picture so it was a solo for me.  LOL


We did try a sample of the Red Velvet Whoopie Pies they had. . . . my goodness, it was wonderful.


I did not get any reading or sewing done this weekend. . . . but we did have fun.

And they wonder why no one wants to use the USPS???!!!

My husband is waiting for a phone case that was coming from New York.

We live in New Jersey.  Our mail comes through the Old Bridge, NJ post office.

This is the same post office that "lost" mail while we were on vacation and when I repeatedly tried to find out where our mail went I was stonewalled.  It ended up that there was a "floater" carrier that decided he was too busy to deliver the mail so he just threw it in his car/house/wherever and never delivered it.

So, this order, again coming from New York, has been in Old Bridge, NJ TWICE. . . .but it still has not arrived at our home.

I guess they decided to give the package a grand tour of the state: 

And the United States Postal Service can't figure out why people don't use their services all the time?

Gee, I hope we get this package soon. . . . . . .
