New Hampshire 2016 -- part three

Mr. Books and I love travelling around when we are vacationing . . . . . we never stay close to our temporary "home base" and our side trips always seem to lead us to more fun.

During one of our outings we found a Stone Iron Furnace.  The last one left in New Hampshire!

 And this, the longest operating General Store!  Unfortunately, it had recently closed by the time we found it due to the financial downturn of the owner.  We were told that the store, all the contents, and the surrounding shops (all owned by the same man) were going to be auctioned off.

I love the history of the building and hope that the new owners will at least some of the legacy, if not try to bring it back to a vibrant life.

Lincoln, NH vacation Part Two - covered bridges

While we were in New Hampshire we went on a covered bridge tour.  I find covered bridges to be so interesting in the variations of construction used.

the curved bracing was so interesting to see.

When Mr. Books and I were traveling around on our own we came upon another covered bridge, here is the front:

We had a fun time on the tour (and I even found a quilt shop that I was able to run to while we were taking a bit of a rest stop!)

At the end of the tour we visited a yogurt shop where we both got some of the best tasting frozen yogurt we have had.

Latest swap blocks sent out

Well, it is August and I am happy to say that I have kept up with the blocks for this years Stash Bee swaps.

For July we went wonky (which is not my favorite process) for a member in The Netherlands.  Here is my block:

It has been received and the owner will be collecting all her blocks together to make a quilt.

For August we again went a bit wonky. . . .here is what I sent to a member of the swap in New Mexico:

In September it will be my turn to choose a pattern for the hive members to make.  I am having a tough time figuring out what block to use. . . . but I have narrowed it down and just need to make up the tutorial.

Not much other sewing has been going on. . . . but hopefully I will have more to show soon.

My shadow is gone. . . . . .

I have been avoiding the computer for the last little while because my life has been a little topsy turvy due to illnesses with friends and family.

Two weeks ago I lost my shadow.  Our princess, Casey when over the Rainbow Bridge at the beginning of the month after battling several illnesses.

It was so hard to say goodbye to her as she has been my constant shadow since we adopted her on 1/4/09.

When we adopted her she was scared of so many things, men (except for Mr. Books), little boys, kids on bikes, had separation anxiety and would run and hide at the slightest loud noise.

But with our frequent camping trips she blossomed into a much more confident little girl.  While she never fully got over her fear of men, she did get to a place where she could approach them and would let them pet her (as long as they waited for her to be comfortable).

It is hard to go into my sewing room because she would always follow me and curl up in her bed to make sure that she knew where I was at all times.  And it will be hard to have pizza in the house because she would always sing for pieces of the pizza crust.

She was such a sweet little pup and while my heart is broken and my tears come very easily I do believe that she had the best 7 years, 7 months that we could have given her.
