Just a note on commenting. . . . . . .

As I am sure everyone is aware by now. . . . . Blogger is not sending comments to my email address. . . the only way that I see that there are comments (at this time) is if I actually go into my "moderate comments" screen.


Which is a pain and extra work.


For the record. . . . I do not maintain a master list of all the people that leave comments.  I do not have the ability, or inclination, to save email addresses. . .there is too much stuff I have to keep track of in my life as it is.  I am not shopping around for some business or organization to sell any information to. . . .in fact, if you know of a good way to get rid of telemarketers permanently I would pay YOU for that information!!!


With that being said, if you leave a comment I like to be able to reply to acknowledge that you visited.  I you ask a question I would like to be able to answer it.


As the world stands now, every time that I make a post I will have to make a comment to myself and click the button so that any other replies will come through to me.


If you are making a comment you should probably think about doing the same thing so that you can see any responses.  See. . . . this is a PITA (pain in the a--).


Now, just to be sure that I cover all bases. . . . if you leave your email addy in the comment I will definitely be able to reply to your comment.


Sorry to be on a rant. . . . . . . but all this "protection" is just too much for my brain to handle.  Maybe it will be easier when I get to retirement age. . . . . which is quite a ways down the road right now.  LOL

May 2018 OMG (One Monthly Goal) finish link-up

My, oh my, where has May gone?

As it is the end of the month I will be linking up with Elm Street Quilts to report on my finish of another monthly goal.


My main goal for May was to complete a quilt for the Hands2Help charity quilt drive.


That was done:

Then, my second goal was not what I had picked to do . . . . I did another quilt for Hands2Help program:

This one was sent to Little Lambs for their tote bag program.

Hands 2 Help 2018. . . .my quilts

Sarah, who blogs at Confessions of a Fabric Addict does a wonderful job every year of rounding up quilters to make quilts for charities.


Each year she provides at least 3 charities through her blog. . . .plus she now provides information for Canadian quilters of a charity. . . .but she also mentions that quilters can pick a charity of their own choosing.


I have been excited to take part in Hands2Help for several years.


This year I am sending out two quilts:


This quilt will be going to Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo.


The pattern is by Meadow Mist Designs and was very easy to do.


The "crazy" fabric in the center of the boxes was a challenge fabric that I received through a Delphi Forum quilt group that I belong to.  We had a limited amount of fabric. . . .so limited that one of the small squares had to be pieced in 2 places to get a big enough piece! 


I machine quilted it on my Nolting Fun Quilter 17. . . .meandering in the yellow sections and doing "special" stitches in the boxes. 


Using a variegated thread that had the colors of the challenge fabric seems to have toned down that bright, bright yellow to a more manageable color.

My second quilt:

This is being donated to Little Lambs Foundation for Kids.

I am not sure what the pattern is. . . . to be honest I found the top, batting, backing and binding all together in one of my "infamous" tote boxes in the basement sewing area.  And, I don't remember making it . . . . although I have enough 1930's reproduction fabrics to choke a horse.  LOL

This quilt was quilted using a meander with an off white thread on the top and bottom.

I just need to get the binding done on the quilts and they will be out the door no later than Friday.

I hope that these quilts will bring some sense of comfort to those that receive them.

I was at Ricky Tims' Quilt Luminarium!

On May 7th & 8th I did not go to work. . . . I attended the New Jersey version of Ricky Tims' Quilt Luminarium.


It was a very intense 2 days. . . . .made a bit more stressful due to traffic each morning.


Ricky is very entertaining. . . and freely shared how he worked on his quilts.  He offered so many tips and tricks that my head was spinning.

He also had a changing display of his quilts that we were invited to touch and get "up close with".


I remember when everyone was doing his Convergence quilts. . . . but I never got to it.  After seeing these examples:

I think I have to give the technique a try.


I purchased some of Ricky's hand dyed fabrics but I will practice on some "not so special" fabric first before I cut into what I bought.


There were a lot of quilts to see, but one of my favorites was his self portrait:

He could not explain why he had a green nose.


The 2 day affair covered all types of subjects, color theory, applique techniques, fabric dying techniques, quilting styles, tips and techniques, piecing techniques. . . just the gamut of everything.


My brain hurt after the first day. . . . . but my mind was already thinking of ways to use some of the information that was given out.


It was also pretty nice to come home from a class/symposium and not have yet another UFO in hand. . . . although if I try the things that I have been thinking up I might end up with a UFO or two. . . . .


I enjoyed the experience. . . . and I am glad that I went.  I really think if you are a "modern" quilter and/or really enjoy applique you would probably get even more out of it than I did (since applique is still the "A" word in my world!  LOL)

Then, if there is any month left, I have blocks from the New Years' Eve mystery from Merry Mayhem that I would like to get sewn together so that I can decide on borders.
