August OMG (one monthly goal) . . . . Close but no cigar

Well, I did not complete my goal for August.

But it was not because of a lack of trying.  Life just gets in the way sometimes.

We had done some day tripping, one of the pups was under the weather and that caused some concern, then there was a time when I was feeling under the weather, then, before I knew it, the month was over.

Here is the first row (of 8) that was completed:

Originally the orange-y color framing the blocks was a darker burgundy/brown kind of color.  But I thought that was too dark so I did some searching and found the orange-y one.

I am happy with that.

For the sashing between the blocks I had thought to use a medium gold color (trying to match the color of the pasta in the print) but I could not find anything in my stash that I was happy with.

The yellow was a piece big enough to work and it looked okay when I put the large pieces of fabric together.  But now that I am actually starting to get the top together I am having second thoughts that it might be too bright.

However, as I have gotten most of the fabric cut to size there is no turning back now. . it is going to stay and I am going to hope for the best.

I want to keep plugging away on this one so that it will get to a flimsy stage as soon as possible.

Check out Elm Street Quilts HERE to see how everyone else did with their August goals.

In peace and pieces,

Sherry

I've been a busy beaver!

August has started out as a great month to get things done.  I don't know what has changed, but I seem to have more "umph" to get things done.

I was in a swap through a Facebook group (small swap, only 4 of us) for Churn Dash blocks.  Here are the blocks I sent out:

The swap was to make one Churn Dash dark and the other one light using colors requested by each person.

I am also in Stash Bee this year.  Here is the block that I did for August.

The directions given had the flying geese made with the technique that created 4 geese at a time.  I don't remember doing that technique before (but I have seen it tons of times). . .wow!  It worked great and I was really pleased with the result.

YouTube has been providing me a bunch of inspiration, again, and I followed a YouTube video from Tea Quilts (the link will take you to her web page) to make a "back rest" for my iPad:

The directions she provided were easy to follow and I am so pleased with the way it turned out.

Now I can watch my videos while I am sewing since I won't have to hold the iPad to see!

There was some forward movement on a couple of other projects but I did not get pictures of those yet. . . .

All in all this has been a great month, so far, and I am looking forward to spending more time in my sewing area soon . . . . I need to get projects done, at least to the flimsy stage, so I can make some room.

In peace and pieces,

Sherry

OMG (One Monthly Goal) for August 2018

Here we are at the start of a new month. . . . and another chance to commit to an OMG (One Monthly Goal) over at Elm Street Quilts.

While I picked doing the crumb blocks as my July OMG I have been thinking. . . .those are blocks that I can work on between working on other projects rather than just working on them.

The hard part is picking what I want to use as my "main" project. . . .there are so many UFO's around here that are all screaming "me, me, me, pick me".  LOL

After considering what needs to be done I am choosing to work on my 4-Patch Stacked Posie quilt.

Here is a view of the pattern:

See the source image

Here is the fabric that I worked with. . . I liked it because it was food related and I had been collecting lots of junk food fabric so I thought it might be good for a backing.

But when I found the 4-Patch Stacked Posie pattern I knew this was the fabric for it.

The small blocks are all done, here are some of them

I think it is amazing how one fabric can produce so many different blocks.

So, my goal for August is to get these blocks sashed and put together into a quilt top!

Be sure to go visit Elm Street Quilts to see what goals everyone else is setting for August!

In peace and pieces,

Sherry
