Four Season Quilt Swap --- Winter

Hi All:

I left you a teaser a couple of posts ago. . . and since my quilt for the swap is on its way to ---- somewhere other than my house (did you really think I was going to give it away???!!! lol) I think it would be ok to post a picture:



I wanted to upload it into the Flickr group site. . . .only I don't remember how to do it. If anyone wants to send me an email, or leave a comment with the directions I would be very grateful.

Nothing else really interesting has been going on. . . . so I will leave you to your own devices for a while.

The Basement!!

Ok, since the contest for the messiest sewing area has finished I will venture to show you all what my stash consists of!!

This is my sewing area. . . .yes, it needs to get cleared up again, but it has been set up and it does work for me.



The shelves & tote boxes that you see beyond where the sewing machine is set up (yes, I have a SewEzi table [it's really supposed to be my husband's, but I've taken it over] and I love working with it) contain my stash. . . of fabric, some yarn (not nearly as much as I thought I had), plus kits, and supplies (thread, bobbins, pins, scissors, rotary cutters, rulers, etc., etc., etc.

Now to be honest, the side where there are most of the copy paper boxes is where the stash is (not counting the plastic totes) and on the other side is mostly storage of knick knacks, over flow/low use kitchen appliances, decorative plates, etc. But I don't have to go to the store for ANY fabric for a very long time as long as doing scrappy things works. (Which will since that what I like to do).

Now, if you are still with me. . . . . .here's the latest dilemma I have. . . .do I work on the fabric stash by making up, or using patterns --- OR --- do I work the kits first in order to get those boxes finished??? I don't want to run "willy nilly" all over the place, because that is part of why I got into this mess to begin with!! LOL

Ok, they say confession is good for the soul. . . .I'm ready for CONSTRUCTIVE comments.

Stash Busting Report

This week was a pretty good week. . . . although you wouldn't know it by the amount of stash that I busted!!!

I completed my small quilt for the Four Seasons Quilt Swap. . . but I will only show you a "teaser" picture --- this is the back of the quilt BEFORE I quilted it (that's why you see the pins).





I also completed 3 quilt blocks --- 2 Attic Windows & 1 pieced star block. I didn't think to take pictures of the Attic Windows blocks but here is a picture of the pieced star block.



These were all made for the Block of the Month program at my quilt guild. . .the Attic Window blocks were for January's meeting & the pieced star blocks are due for the February meeting. . . .and I need to make one more of them (the one I've finished was for my DH's entry).

All totalled I guess I've busted 5 FQ's of fabric. . . not a lot, but better out than in, that was the object.

I have not purchased any fabric for ME. . . . but I did complete the sale of 2 yards of Toy Story fabric for my sister (and it has already been delivered, so it was in & out in the same week). . . she will be making a valance for my nephew's bedroom.

While I haven't been doing a lot of sewing I have continued to work on the baby afghan (but I took this past weekend off due to church commitments. . .but it is 3/4 of the way done so I can see that being completed this week.

Goals for this week:

a. Complete baby afghan
b. Complete 2nd pieced star block
c. Complete "clean out" of basement --- only 2 more areas to go
d. Clean up sewing area so I have clean surfaces
e. Complete Spa Quilt top
f. Get backings & batting pieces ready for Spa Quilt & Bear's Paw

Gratitudes:

a. God's grace
b. Sufficient income to cover the expenses & allow DH & I to have fun
c. No snow (yet)

Sunday's Stash Busting Report

Hi All,

This will be a bit of a boring stash busting report. . . but I am still working on the teddy bear afghan which is busting stash. But until it's done I won't know how much I've used.

I did wash all of the fabric that had been in the laundry room for months (I wash all of my fabric before it goes into the "usable" stash piles). . . and I did approximately 8 extra large loads of fabric!!!!!

Most of the weekend was spent on clearing out spots in the basement. . .DH & I have taken out an old 5 drawer dresser, a weird shape (octagon) table that had been left in the house when it was sold, and a terribly heavy china closet. It is wonderful to see some open spaces in the basement. . . and to know that things are starting to get better & a more workable sewing area for me will be the result.

WIP Wednesday. . . oh no, another deadline!!!

Good Evening!

Hot on the heels of the belated Christmas gift I have a baby afghan that needs to be completed by NEXT Thursday. . . .here are some pictures:




This is a filet crochet pattern that I could probably do in my sleep since I have made so many of them over the years.

This gift is for first-time parents (my DH is godfather (no, not THAT Godfather) to the father-to-be & I work with the mother-to-be so this is special for us).

Hopefully, after this crochet project I can get moving on quilt projects, although I have lots of WIPs, PIGS, and UFOs that will need to have attention paid to them if I want to get the stash & basement under control.

Stash Busted report for 1st week of January

This is just a short note to report that I have finished the afghan shown in my previous post. And that means that I busted about 48 oz. of yarn from that stash. Now it is on to several other projects that need to be completed.

Yippee!!!! My first completion for 2008!!

New Year, New Computer, New Determination!!

Good Morning!!!

First, I would like to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year! It is wonderful to be able to be back on the computer after the meltdown in December. My computer "guru" isn't quite sure why the old computer went "belly up" after installing the DSL, but it appears that the software was telling the computer one thing & the computer was not happy with what was being said, so it just shut down.

But now I have a brand new computer, with twice the memory of what I had before. . .so things are moving very, very quickly ---- and I love that downloads are done in minutes rather than hours (why didn't I switch to DSL a long time ago!!??)

As to my new determination. . . . well, I have not purchased fabric since November 1, 2007 (nor have I purchased any yarn). . . and my book & magazine purchases are way down.

So far this year I have almost completed a belated Christmas gift for my husband's secretary:



She has gone through quite a bit over the last year or so and we thought that a "comfort" gift would be appropriate. It would have been done on time but I got the flu & bronchitis the week before Christmas & everything just stopped.

We are also on a home renovation project --- nothing big, but the house needs to be painted & decluttered and the basement has not been worked on in over 2 years so it is very hard to find things & my sewing area is a disaster.

First project was to paint. . . .and hubby likes wallpaper so we put up this border in the bathroom:



Pretty appropo, wouldn't you say?? When it first went up I wasn't sure I was going to like it (my family has never been big on wallpaper). . . and it took about a week for it to "grow" on me, but I like it. Does anyone have any tips on pictures & stuff for the walls ---- I know I should probably stay within the color scheme of the wallpaper. We are planning on putting an oak shelf above the toilet (in line with the top of the medicine cabinet) to hold my husband's collection of shaving mugs. . . but that will leave the other side of the cabinet looking rather bare. . .I'm thinking a picture, or perhaps a floral piece of some kind might work.

Well, I have to get ready for breakfast & church so I'll leave you all to your own devices for now.
