Objectives met. . . March OMG (one monthly goal), FAL, I Xmas Gift a Month

I have been a bit of a busy bee lately.  Which is surprising because I have felt like I wasn't getting much done.





For March I wanted to complete the 1930's baby quilt that I quilted last month.


I did it!!

It is bound.  I measured it, but I can't find my note. . . but it is bigger than 36" x 36".  This will be going to Jack's Basket as part of my participation in Hands2Help 2019.
This was also one of my goals for the 1st quarter Finish A Long .


One of my other goals for the month was to quilt a top for a friend.  That was done as well.

She was pleased with the quilting and I was happy to have been able to do it for her.

I was able to get two gifts done in March.

So I have been able to keep up the momentum of getting things done.







And, this momentum is helping me keep up with the Finish-A-Long goals I have as well.


This was a very good month for me!

What I did on Quilting Day weekend. . . . . .

Here we are on the day after St. Patrick's Day and 2 days past National Quilting Day.

I actually finished quilting a quilt on Saturday. . . . and I had only started quilting it Friday evening!

This quilt was made by a friend of mine with blocks from a Row Robin our quilt guild did a while back. 

The black and white blocks were those made by her husband and his group; the red and black were made by her and her group.

The quilt is laid out on a double bed. . . and the sides hang over the edge a little bit.  So you can see that it is a really nice size quilt.

I am amazed that I got the quilting done in 2 sessions. . . with my back issues I thought that it would take me longer.

The best part. . . .my friend liked the quilting and she is now on to working on the binding to complete it.

I also finished the binding on the 1930's repro quilt that I quilted last month:

I plan on sending this out to one of the charities picked for the Hands 2 Help Challenge.

I have participated in the challenge for several years and look forward to getting this quilt and perhaps another one out for the challenge.

We had a woman from our local Project Linus chapter come to our guild meeting yesterday and talk about how they distribute their quilts so I may be doing more donating locally to me instead of mailing a lot out.

Now I don't have a picture of this. . . . but Mr. Books and I cut batting pieces for 11 (yes, ELEVEN) quilts yesterday!

We purchased a huuuuuggggee bolt of batting quite a number of years ago and it has just been pulled out a couple of times for cutting.  Mostly we worked with the packages of batting that I had stockpiled prior to getting married (I had to use those 50% off coupons from Joann's somewhere!  LOL).

But since we are going to pull out the batting to cut a piece for a quilt that he is working on I thought that I would grab some of my quilt tops that need to have batting and backings made.

On My Goodness!  I could not believe how quickly I was able to pull 10 quilt tops.

I mean I know that I had quilt tops. . . . but I did not think that there were that many.   And I know that I have a few other quilt tops that I could not put my hands on. . . so there are even more!

While we were cutting the batting I was taking measurements so that I can get the backings put together. . . . that should take up a chunk of the fabric stash that I have in the house. . . .at least I hope it will.

Oh, that bolt of batting, there is still more left!  But it is much more manageable and the diameter has gone down significantly. . . . but I still have more quilts to make to use it up completely.

It is a polyester batting. . . . and now I prefer working with cotton or bamboo. . . . but it will get used and projects will be completed.  Which is forward movement in getting the stash reduced so I am happy.

OMG (One Monthly Goal) for March

For March I am thinking again about having several goals:


Bind the 1930's baby quilt I quilted last month

And get the quilting done on the 2016 Stash Bee quilt top that also was put together last month

I also have another quilting job. . . . a flimsy that one of my friends asked me to quilt for her in exchange for a Singer 99 sewing machine.  I haven't taken a picture of it yet so you will have to wait to see it.  I think she did a wonderful job with it.

OMG (One Monthly Goal). . .WoW, what a February!

February has been so very productive for me. . . . I just wish I could figure out why so I could make sure to keep the momentum going!  LOL


I will be linking up to Elm Street Quilts for the February Finishes.

My OMG goals for February were as follows:


1.  Complete a baby afghan. . . . . DONE!

This was a variegated yarn from Hobby Lobby.  The yarn is very soft and I hope that the baby it is meant for gets a lot of use out of it.

2.  Piece together blocks that I had from 2016. . . . . DONE!

This is made up of blocks I got through Stash Bee members in 2016.  I made up a few extra blocks to bring it to a total of 20 blocks.

Here is a closer view of some of the blocks showing the variation of the fabrics in each block.

I am thinking that I will use this as a charity quilt. . . and after seeing the size of it on my bed I think I will just do a border using a black fabric with dark gray polka dots to finish it off.


3.  Complete quilting a quilt using 1930's fabrics. . . .DONE
Here is a "full view" right after I trimmed the excess batting and backing.

 I did not use a 1930's reproduction for the backing. . . . but I have a ton of this fabric so I decided to use some of it for the smaller quilts that I have done.

So, February has been a great month for me.  Three goals met. . . .on top of the blocks that I was able to get made.  Now on to making the binding so that I can get this quilt totally completed.

January 350 block challenge progress

Ok then, we have the first month of 2019 in the bag!

As I have mentioned before, I have participated in the 350 Block Project for a couple of years but I think January was the best month I have had in a long time.


I finished 41 blocks.


Thirty of the blocks were for this quilt

Which is now completely bound and being mailed to its new home in California.
This quilt was part of my 1st quarter Finish A Long goals. 
Here is the completed quilt:


Then there were blocks for Stash Bee swaps. . . . first, the January block

Which, hopefully, has been received in Canada by now.


Then these blocks

Which are samples for my swap partners since my receiving month is February.  I did one other block that did not get in the picture.


There were also 2 blocks (no pictures) for my guild block of the month for January and February.  And 3 crumb blocks (also no pictures) that are being worked on between other projects.


I am hoping that I can keep up the momentum that I have going so that I can get a good number of blocks done this month also.

February OMG (One Monthly Goal)

Well I did great for January.  I got the charity quilt pieced AND quilted AND the binding has been stitched to the front AND I have started to work on stitching it down on the back.


So now it is on to February.  Even though February is a short month I have three simple projects that I think are easily accomplished:


Crocheted Baby Afghan


This project has a time limit of it's own as it is so it needs doing more sooner than later.

I have been working on this at lunch during the week and on Sundays so this should be an easy finish.


2016 Stash Bee Blocks


2016 was the first year that I participated in Stash Bee and it was fun.  Here are some of the blocks that I received:

There are 20 blocks in different colors (more green than the others) to make into a large lap throw.  My goal for these is to get them pieced into a quilt top.  I have not decided whether I want to border this or not. . . I'll have to see after I get the top pieced.


1930's baby quilt

This has been pieced and needs to get quilted.  So, for February, I want to get it quilted.  If I can get the binding done also that would be an extra bonus.


So, three really do-able goals for February. . . . .and if the temps stay as cold as they have been I will probably have more than this to show for my efforts!
