February OMG (One Monthly Goal)

Well I did great for January.  I got the charity quilt pieced AND quilted AND the binding has been stitched to the front AND I have started to work on stitching it down on the back.


So now it is on to February.  Even though February is a short month I have three simple projects that I think are easily accomplished:


Crocheted Baby Afghan


This project has a time limit of it's own as it is so it needs doing more sooner than later.

I have been working on this at lunch during the week and on Sundays so this should be an easy finish.


2016 Stash Bee Blocks


2016 was the first year that I participated in Stash Bee and it was fun.  Here are some of the blocks that I received:

There are 20 blocks in different colors (more green than the others) to make into a large lap throw.  My goal for these is to get them pieced into a quilt top.  I have not decided whether I want to border this or not. . . I'll have to see after I get the top pieced.


1930's baby quilt

This has been pieced and needs to get quilted.  So, for February, I want to get it quilted.  If I can get the binding done also that would be an extra bonus.


So, three really do-able goals for February. . . . .and if the temps stay as cold as they have been I will probably have more than this to show for my efforts!

Slow stitching. . . . a baby afghan

I have been trying to do some "no machine involved" handwork on Sunday so that I can be upstairs with Mr. Books instead of the basement sewing studio.


There is a manager in the department next to mine that is having a baby and I am making her an afghan:

It is a corner to corner (or C2C) afghan using a variegated yarn from Hobby Lobby (I Love This Yarn, 5 oz. skeins, Color Name: Parcel & Bow).


I have not done a C2C in quite a number of years but I am pretty pleased with how the colors are getting mixed up.


This is not my "normal" baby afghan for gifts. . . .but I got bored with doing the same thing every time so when I saw the YouTube video by Jayda in Stitches (which dates back to 2017) I thought it looked like fun.


Now I just need to pick up the pace so I can gift this before she leaves for maternity leave!

FNwF (Friday Night With Friends) and crochet

Ok, the weekend just completely got away from me so I did not get to post this earlier.

Friday night I spent some time completing a baby afghan that I have been working on for a while:

 Here is a closer view of the center. . . .and you can just barely make out the final row with the picots.

I made this from stash yarn and I am happy to say that I tossed the couple of yards of yarn that was left (normally I would save it).

Since I finished it in time I have entered it in to our county fair. . . . which starts today and runs until Sunday.  It would be fun to go to the fair later this week and see a ribbon on it. . . . but I am not holding out hope.

Mr. Books found it funny that this is the very first time that I have entered anything in the county fair. . . but with his background in 4H and his family involvement for most of his life it was just expected of him.  I don't have that background so had never considered doing it until now.

I'll let you know if I get a ribbon.

Friday Night With Friends

Tonight is the first Friday of the month. . . . which means it is time for FNwF with Cheryll.

I am hoping to put quite a few stitches in a crochet baby afghan that I am making from mostly stash yarn.  It is to be a gift for a co-worker who is becoming a first time GrandMa.

I have also fallen behind on the crazy quilting block that Kathy is running lessons on. . . . .so that is on my radar as well.

Tonight will be a success if I can just get some kind of handwork done that does not involve housework!  LOL

Friday Night with Friends result

I was able to get some work done on the baby afghan that I am working on.

Unfortunately, my DH's camera battery has died. . . and his battery charger must be in the same place as my camera. . . which means I can't post any pictures right now.

But, the pattern is called "Rainbow Ripple Baby Afghan" and it is a 12 pointed star afghan designed by Celeste Young.  I found the pattern on Ravelry (which is where the link will take you).

I'm not doing a "rainbow". . . . I'm using cream yarn for the entire piece.

The pattern is very easy to work and I hope that it will be well received at the shower -- especially since it is such an unusual piece.

My one disappointment with the pattern (and this is my own issue) is that there is no definite number of rows listed.  The pattern just indicates to work through the rainbow.  From my calculations it appears that there should be 36 rows (but I could be wrong. . . ).  So I am using that as my end row.

I have about 10 more rows to go. . . . so I'm hoping to have it done by the middle of next week at the latest.

Same Stuff. . . . . Different Day

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the Earth again. . . .I just don't have anything new to post about.

I'm still plugging away on the blue & cream afghan --- I'm thinking I might be able to finish it this weekend as I only have 10 or 12 more rows to go.

I haven't been working on the pink & green quilt all that much. . . even with the air conditioning it has just been too hot to quilt. Plus I have some other projects that have been demanding some time.

On the Lyme Disease front. . . .Casey seems to be doing well on the antibiotics --- she is pretty much back to her old self. We still have a little while before the drugs are completed so I am hoping everything will be fine once she is back "on her own".

DH & I are planning a cruise to Alaska for next year. We will use the trip as a celebration of our 5th wedding anniversary. We will be married 5 years in November of this year -- but as there are no cruises in Alaska at that time it will be a celebration postponed.

We have been very blessed that even in this economy we both have jobs and have been able to get into a position to afford this type of trip.

Sorry that there is no eye candy this time; hopefully I'll have some by the next time I post.

WIP Wednesday

Despite being busy I was able to get some more work done on some projects. . . here are the pics to prove it:

These first two are pictures of a Flickr block swap that I am in. . . these blocks will be winging their way to Arizona later today.



This is a progress picture of the baby afghan that I am making for a friend of mine. Yes, I like to make my baby afghans extra big so that they can be used by the adults with the child. . . .and there is plenty of "grow into" room.


I'm also working on a "secret project". . .namely the annual Twisted Mystery #6 project. I can't show pictures here until sometime in late October or early November. . .but I love the fabrics I was sent and now that I see the project coming together I am really happy with my decisions.

DH is feeling better. . . but with school starting in less than 2 weeks he has been kept extra busy and, IMHO, hasn't been getting enough time to sleep.

Not much else to report for today. . . we have been getting some rainy days lately (which I am NOT complaining about after the long period of high heat, humidity and no rain). . .it's been touch & go for several of my newer plants and I'm not sure if some of the dogwoods have survived. I'm pretty sure some of my azaleas are gone. . .there was just no way to give them the amount of water they needed with the summer that we have had.

DH would disagree with me but I can't wait for the cooler weather of fall to get here.

WIP Wednesday. . . . . on Thursday

DH called yesterday afternoon to tell me that he was going home & then directly to bed. . . .he's been attacked by a nasty, evil cold!

He looks and sounds terrible. . . and I really feel sorry for him but why does the world stop for colds with men but nothing changes when we women get sick???

Now I understand what my friends have been complaining about all these years!! LOL

Ok, to be fair, there have been some times (like when I get my migraines) that DH has waited on me hand & foot. But I still have to tell him where things are & what needs to be done --- guess I've made life a little too easy for him!! he he he he

Enough about that. . . here's some eye candy:




These are pictures of a baby afghan that I am making. I got a bit bored with doing all blue so I thought some bands of a cream would brighten up the piece --- and help to show off the design of the pattern.

There are post stitches (for those of you that crochet) that create the ridges down the length of the piece. . .I'm hoping that you may be able to see them somewhat clearly in at least one of the pictures.

This has been my lunch project. . .I eat in our cafeteria and then use the rest of the hour to work on projects or read. I find that I get alot of things done doing this; very much like taking 15 minutes to work on a project as many people blog about.

I'm still working on the pink & green quilt. . .just thought that you might like to see something a bit different this week.
