(this is for backing, there are 2 Christmas quilts so I am not sure which one this will go for)

(the white and greens are for a pattern testing block swap)

Yes, I am a member of Fabricholics Anonymous but, I do not feel that I have any confessions since I did not count the backing and the pattern testing as "new" purchases. . . . these were things that I needed to get other items done.

So far my numbers are going in the wrong direction. . . . but I am hoping that it will soon turn around.

Stash Usage Report --- February 7, 2011

I'm hoping to have pictures here later today of the quilt tops that I have been working on, but, for now, here are the numbers:

It feels pretty good to have used that much fabric & have some pretty quilt tops to show for it. Now the hard part is getting them quilted and finished so that they can be given away.

Stash Report -- January 23, 2011

I missed posting last week. . .but I hadn't used anything so there was no progress to report.

However, THIS week was terrific!!

The usage came in from completing 9 blocks of the Kimono Medley quilt (more pics will be posted tomorrow), completing the Yellow Brick Road quilt top (girl version), and making some quilt labels as a gift.

6 yards come from the backing fabrics needed for the Yellow Brick Road -- both girl & boy version (to be done this week -- I hope).

Boy, have I been BUSY!!!! (includes a very belated Stash Report)

Well, lest you all think that I have flown the coop yet again. . . .here I am!! he he

This past Saturday Mr. Books and I went to New City, NY to see a school mate perform with his rock band. What a great time!

You probably can't really see the guys very well. . .but here's a try at posting a picture:



My friend plays guitar. . . he's on the darkest side of the picture. . .don't think you can see him.

In addition to travelling I have been working on pillowcases for an upcoming retreat where Mr. Books & I will be teaching. . . there are a total of 17 pillow cases that were cut (the first one was my prototype & will remain with me, the last one is not completed since it will be used as a demo piece during the retreat).

The following pictures will give you an "all over" view which includes the prototype opened up; as well as two additional pictures that show the completed ones a little closer so that the fabrics used can be seen:





What I haven't shown here is my Twisted Mystery quilt. . . .I can't show that until it gets returned to it's owner sometime in early November. Mr. Books & I are both in the swap this year so I haven't shown his work either. . . but it is looking pretty good!!

I also am in the process of completing a cube pincushion. . .that will be part of the demonstration at retreat plus there will be one in the package to my SSCS partner.

There is also a totebag that I am making for the retreat. . .the outside is made from fabrics that Mr. Books & I had hand dyed a couple of years ago during a workshop with our quilt quild. . .figured it was time to cut into some of the stash.

Now, here's the STASH REPORT. . . .in the past 2 weeks I have used almost 19 yards of fabric.

ALL of it was from stash --- and ALL of it was from a single tote box that was in the basement.

Yup, all of the pillow cases came from the same box of fabric. . . and, the box doesn't look any lower AT ALL!!! he he he I'm hoping that it is just because I did not neatly fold back all of the fabric. . . because if that is not the reason I have a bigger fabric stash than even I could have imagined.

Now mind you, I am no where near being a hoarder. . .I know better than to pack a storage unit with unwashed dishes and purses full of garbage, etc., but I do love buying fabric!!

Since I am on such a roll I am going to start my stash reporting again as of 10/01/10. . .so:

Stash Busted since 10/01: 19 yards

Stash Report --- Week 13 & Week 14 combined

Gee, if I didn't know better I would think that I was avoiding 'fessing up to my fall off the wagon last week by not posting to Judy's link.

Nah, wasn't that. . . it was just that DH & I went to the Mud Sale at Gap, PA with the trailer (left Friday night, returned Sunday night -- sans trailer) and then we left again this past Thursday night and just got back home (with trailer) at 4PM today.

Ok, to answer the obvious question --- What is a Mud Sale? What, you weren't going to ask? You shouldn't be upset with asking --- everyone does! he he he

In Lancaster County the Fire Department are all unfunded; therefore, in the Spring & Fall they hold auctions of all kinds of things that are donated by the Amish, Mennonite and "English" folks in the communities that they serve. We are talking about anything from livestock, horses, buggies, trees, plants, quilts (YES, quilts), knick knacks, quilt racks, antiques, baskets, lawn furniture, cast iron fencing and hangers, in short, anything you could possibly auction off!

This is the 3rd year that DH & I have attended the Gap, PA mud sale. . .and since it is always around the same time as the Quilters' Heritage Celebration show in Lancaster, PA we have taken the trailer & stored it at the same campground for both weekends. . .saves time, gas & toll money.

Ok, so now to the status of my stash. . . .it went up. By 18 yards, but it is all my husband's fault!!! That's MY story and I am STICKING to it!!! he he he

After we left the Gap mud sale we went to Obie's General Store (Route 23, in either Churchtown or Goodville, PA).

If you have never been to Obie's you HAVE to go . . . at least once. Words cannot express the vast number of bolts of fabric that are crammed, stacked, piled & sometimes just plain tossed in that store.

Suffice it to say that you can only walk single file in the aisles & it is like a maze. . . but if it can be found, it will be found at Obie's!

When we went in I told DH that I only needed 2 pieces of fabric (both for a swap). . one that was either violet or had violets on it & another that had ferns or was green.

I came home with 2 fabrics with violets on them, one fabric that is a violet color, 4 fabrics that could possibly pass for being either ferns or be green. That was ok, since I needed the fabric for a swap I am in.

But I also came home with: a cartoon-y flamingo print, a Hoffman swirly print that would be wonderful for borders, a yellow with 1930-ish butterflies, and several other fabrics that the DH thought "I just needed". he he

Of course, he also added to his own stash. . . but since I'm not counting his stuff I won't talk about it.

So, here are the numbers:

Stash Report -- March 22

Ok, the numbers haven't changed because I have finally gotten through all of the fabric that I own (well, at least I **think** I did)!! he he he

For Quilting Day (which was 3/21/09) I completed the 18 blocks that I needed to have done for the Spring Quilt Block Swap (you can follow the link on the right side bar).

I had signed up for 2 sections -- one in yellow & the other in purple. I heard from Jennifer that my blocks arrived at her home today. Yeah!! So I don't have to worry about them any more.

I won't deduct the fabric that I used to make them since I will be getting blocks back. . .so if I deduct now I would have to add it back when the blocks come back. I'll just, from this point on, make my deductions once I get tops and/or backings completed.

So, the numbers stand as follows:

It just dawned on me that I have been making blocks since last year for a Birthday Block Swap through the Quilting Forum at Ask.com. . .but again, I can't really count that as stash OUT since I have been receiving blocks IN and that would really just confuse me.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have been working. . . there's just nothing to show for it at this moment. But, since I am not signing up for any more swaps at the moment (but am gearing up for the next Twisted Mystery quilt swap) I am hoping that I will soon have flimsies to show off.

Stash Report -- Week 10

This week I purchased 4 1/2 yards of fabric. Yes, I know, "bad Sherry". . . but part of the reason was that the contractors were working in the basement & I couldn't go through the boxes that were down there, and part of the reason was that I re-read the directions for the block swap I'm in & realized that the fabrics that I had pulled from the stash wouldn't work (the swap called for monochromatic or at the most tone-on-tones. . and that is not what I had).

The other yard of fabric that shows in the "IN" category is the kit that I purchased in the Strip & Slash class that I took at the Quilt Fest in Somerset, NJ yesterday. It was a fun class & the technique is pretty interesting. The piecing is easy and I can see this as being a quilt that will be completed soon.

And since the contractors were in the basement I couldn't go through more fabric to see if there was additional yardage to cull.

So, here are the numbers:

The numbers will be changing by next week as I plan on getting the swap blocks done, and working on the quilt piece that I started in the Strip & Slash class that my DH & I took at the Quilt Fest of NJ in Somerset, NJ yesterday.

Stash Report -- Week 7

Well, I am in POSITIVE numbers for my stash busting efforts!!! YIPPEE!!!

Unfortunately, it is not the result of a major sewing spree (at least not this week!).

Last Monday the restoration company came to do a clean up of the basement floor. A good chunk of my quilting/craft/sewing, etc. supplies now reside in a PODS unit until we can get the basement fixed (pictures of the "after" cleanup are below):







Ok, so how does this relate to my Stash Report. . . simple. . .I have given away 68.5yards of fabric that I won't be using any time soon.

So, I had previously been 16 yards to the negative I am now 52.5 to the positive!

Would I have rather had something to show for that amount of fabric? You betch ya! But, I am hoping that it will be used --- and it would have just ended up in an "old lady estate sale" if I had kept it because that is really just a "drop in the bucket" when it comes to the stash that I have.

I'm also divesting myself of some craft items that I don't even remember purchasing --- BACK IN 1995 (the receipt was in the bag) --- and will never get around to using.

The fabric that I am keeping I am refolding so that it will fit in a smaller area. . and I will at last be able to sort my fabric by color family, which is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time.

I had wanted to re-do the basement & get it organized. . .I just didn't want to have to do it this way! But I will take advantage of the situation as much as I can by getting better organized and looking at everything that I have collected over the past 20 years that I have lived on my own.

The upside to all of this is that we will finally have the chance to get the basement set up the way we want it to be. My DH has found some stock cabinets that he would like to install to set up a pantry area & an entertainment area. . .in addition to re-doing my sewing area.

So, I have a good stash report and a more positive view of this entire problem so, things are looker brighter!

Week 5 Stash Report

I had hoped to get this posted last night. . .but my DH had to go back to work & I needed to stay on track with the "pre-Spring" cleaning routine that I am trying to set up.

But before I get to my numbers I want to share a picture. . . DH & I went to Lancaster, PA for his birthday weekend at the end of January. Things were a bit hectic because we wanted to get home on Sunday in time to attend church & the congregational meeting (but we didn't get there).

We did alot of antiquing and came home with a Grandmother's clock. Here she is:



It plays Westminster chimes, which I love, and it allowed us to help the economy along a little, he he he.

Ok, now to "own up" to my weakness:

Fabric Added This Week: 10 yards (on order, but I'll take the "hit")

Fabric Used This Week: 1/2 yard (total of 2 FQ's for Birthday Block swap blocks)

But, while my numbers don't look the way I want them I HAVE been working. . . each week I work on a different project. This week I am back to working on my sister's wedding quilt. Last week was my week to work on the Quilt Retreat Mystery that I started in October 2008. . .I'm half-way through Clue #4 and there are only 7 clues so that should be a flimsy soon, since I think most of the cutting & prep work is complete & the blocks should be coming together shortly.

And, lest you all think I am just "lolly-gagging" around, I have also read 1 book & listened to another . . so that is 2 books down in January; and I've started my 3rd book for the year!

I think I better start taking pictures of quilt stuff so that you will know that I AM working on stuff. . . it's just that showing cut fabric doesn't seem very inspiring. . . but seeing complete blocks or pieces is fun, don't you think.

Perhaps I'll have some pictures to show you later this week.

Stash Report. . . Week 3

Well, it would be great if I could tell you all that I busted stash this week. But I didn't.

I added stash!

But, lest you all think that I am a complete failure I must report that I have been working on my "No More UFO's" system (based on one I read about on a blog. . .only I can't find the site to link to right this moment).

Anyway, what I have done is pick 4 UFO's that need to be worked on. . .one for each week of the month.

This week I was to work on my sister's very overdue wedding quilt. While I did not finish all that I had wanted to I at least got 4 more blocks cut & some of the sewing done.

Since it involves curved piecing I am sewing by hand. . .which is a little more time consuming.



Ok, guess I've stalled enough. . .

My quilt guild had a "tricky tray" event today to add some funds to our treasury. And, try as I might I bought tickets because there were things that I just wanted:

A new (to me at least) UFO! Those are yo-yo's making up a flag. My thought process was that I don't have a patriotic wall hanging & this one is already basted & ready to be quilted so half the battle is done!



There were 2 sets of fat quarters. . . I really like the floral print & the pink goes well with it. . .I'm thinking of making a doll quilt with it.


Then there was this stenciled panel. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. . .but I don't have the patience to stencil so I went for it:


I just loved this print. . . and there is THREE yards of fabric here. . .so I could definitely put this aside for borders or sashings:


This quilt block is very pretty with the fussy cut flowers in the setting pieces. . I'm thinking this might just be quilted & bound for another small wall hanging:


I also won some Halloween fabric. . . to the tune of another 3 1/2 yards. . .didn't get a picture of that, but there were two 1/2 yard pieces of a print fabric & and 2 1/2 yard piece of a black with moons & stars on it. . .but that piece doesn't feel like cotton -- I'll have to see how it washes to see if it stays in the stash or becomes something more utilitarian.

While I am confessing my "sin" I guess I better add in the 5 yards of white tone-on-tone that I have on order. . .I need it to go with the black & white & agua fabrics in my Black & White challenge because I have once again changed my mind about the block that I want to do! LOL

Well, I didn't use any stash. . . .but I didn't buy any either!!

This weekend was Judy L's quiltathon, but I didn't get any quilting done. . .at least not yet (it's 7PM on Sunday).

My big goal. . .and accomplishment. . .for this weekend was going through stuff in the basement & getting my husband's stuff in one area (away from mine).

I spent close to 12 hours over the course of the weekend in the basement. And I realize that there is not one blessed pattern, book, magazine or gadget that I need buy for the next little while until I get some room down there!!!

But, next weekend I will be able to actually start sorting & putting "like with like" because I really think that I have major duplication going on!

Tonight I plan on cutting fabric for my sister's wedding quilt so that I can work on it during the week and watching 24. . .Jack Bauer is THE man (although I will never say that to my DH!! lol).

Stash Report, week #1

Well, the first 4 days of January were not good for the condition of my stash.

I could try to justify the incoming fabric on the Black, White & one other color challenge that I am in. . . .since my stash doesn't hold much tone-on-tone black fabrics (at least I don't think it does. . .I did not open all the boxes so I might really be in trouble on this)!

And I could try to justify that the pirate fabric was needed because my nephew likes pirates and the fabric could be used as backing for a quilt for him.

But there is NO way that I can justify the Las Vegas conversational print fabric that I bought. . . I don't believe that there is enough for a stack & whack type quilt, and there isn't enough to be used for a backing for a large quilt, and the design is too large for a doll sized quilt.

Hmm, guess I will just have to admit that I just plain ole BOUGHT fabric when I have no earthly need to buy MORE fabric!!

There, I've said it, now I have to start working.
